On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, I choose not to focus on the individual, but the movement. There were many people involved in the Civil Rights Movement. The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC, pronounced "snick") was a pivotal, student-led civil rights organization in the 1960s that coordinated nonviolent direct actions, like sit-ins and Freedom Rides, to challenge racial segregation and promote Black voter registration, becoming a radical force for change.
